On Sunday, I would avoid Iguana’s, where a Meet-Up group will be hosting a sober speed dating event. The idea of speed dating without any social lubrication sounds like an awkward junior high school dance. Sitting across from an adult, who does not drink for any number of reasons never sounds like a good time, but sitting across from a new, non-drinking, person every 5 minutes? Then again, maybe you don’t drink either, if so, this is the event for you, but not this column. This column is definitely not for you.Also on Saturday, April 6th in Washington Square Park, hundreds, maybe even thousands of people will be armed to the teeth, with pillows. It’s Pillow Fight Day, http://2013.pillowfightday.com/, and things will get ugly. Television would have you believe that pillow fights are an innocent version of play fighting, which any younger sibling would vehemently deny. Being hit with a pillow by an overzealous attacker will leave you light headed, and angry. Soon you’ll want blood. Especially after your designer frames have been knocked off, and even more especially after your friend says “why did you wear those glasses anyway?” You will not look your best with feathers sticking out of disheveled hair. And unless you have unhealthy issues, you’re not going to want to date a man who will smack you in the face with a pillow, then ask for your number.View the list »

Supporting their favorite teams, arguing with rivals, playing beer pong, chain smoking cigarettes, or just being generally obnoxious. Sports bars across New York City will be filled with them, and you are being advised to avoid at all costs on Saturday, April 6th between the hours of 5:30pm-11pm. Unless you are a Syracuse Alum, then go, but don’t meet anyone. Scarfing down wings, licking buffalo sauce off your fingers, running to the bathroom every 30 minutes because of all the beer you’ve been drinking is not cute. More specifically I would stay away from sports bars on the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, and Murray Hill sections of Manhattan, neighborhoods notorious for attracting the frat boy types.

A quick search on the internet has lead me to believe that you are all doing the dating thing wrong. Articles, blogs, Tweets all saying the same thing: dating sucks. According to the World Wide Web there is only one type of successful date--the one that leads to a long term relationship/marriage. Which is wrong. Dating, when done properly, is an opportunity to discover yourself through experiencing the world around you with someone who may be completely wrong for you, but offers a different perspective of life. Done right, you'll have a blast, even if the other person on the date is stuck in the doldrums of their inner psyche. How do yo know if you’re doing dating wrong?

  • Your go-to-date is dinner and a movie.
  • You go home alone, and cry into your pillow.
  • You have not been to a Mets game with your date. Even if you’re not a Mets fan, Citifield is an awesome experience!
  • You haven’t met strangers in a bar and told them you’re on a date from hell, and they did not buy you shots to ease the pain.

But do not fret! You’re lucky, you live in New York City, and a very intelligent and thoughtful person has pointed you in the direction of this article. Giving you the inside scoop on where to meet singles, and where to go with your date. What you won't get is dating advice. You have to work out your own daddy issues. Can't help you with your trust issues either. And you're going to have to figure out how to keep your man.
