"Lie to Me" aired on the FOX network from January 21, 2009 until January 31, 2011. The series, which starred Tim Roth as Dr.Cal Lightman, was a crime drama. Instead of investigating the crime scene, however, the Lightman Group used a different set of criteria to determine whether or not the suspect was guilty of the crime. So excellent were they at what they did, the FBI, several law enforcement agencies, and a few "wealthier" civilians hired them on a case-by-case basis.
And how did they determine if a suspect was guilty of the crime? Suspects were interrogated using a combination of their microexpressions (brief, involuntary facial expressions), body language, and applied psychology. The series was based off of the work of real life Dr. Paul Ekman, a psychologist and expert on facial expressions.
The series also starred Kelli Williams as Dr. Gillian Foster, Brendan Hines as Eli Loker, Monica Raymund as Ria Torres, and Hayley McFarland as Emily Lightman.
