There will be plenty of tropical music, that's for sure. The Latin Billboard has been characterized through the years by featuring tropical artists. The 2013 edition is not the exception, the top hits in Latin charts within the United States have been with no doubt part of this genre leaving little room to pop and alternative music. Notwithstanding many artists within the Anglo market have opted to join the Indie movement, this hasn't been the case for the Latino market which yet abstain of opening its doors to independent musicians. In regards to Pop, from 68 categories, ten of them belong to this genre.
Thereon, many faces are familiarized with the Latin Billboard awards after all. Such is the case of Maná, Shakira and Ricardo Arjona. There is also pop artist Reik, who is returning to the awards with a nomination for Latin Pop Song Artist of the Year. However, first time nominees like the Mexican duet Jessy & Joy are walking the red carpet. The siblings are in the center of attention with their third production called “Con quien se queda el perro?” (Who is the dog staying with?). This album also features versions of its songs in English and the contributing writers were the same camaraderie that contributed in Adele's last album. On the other hand, A new boisterous face with millions of followers is Michael Teló's, the only Brazilian nominated by the Latin Billboard. Teló is competing in seven categories. Moreover, the recent deceased Jenny Rivera is part of the list of nominees and there is an uncertainty about whether there will be a tribute in her honor during the awards ceremony.
In addition, Marc Anthony, J Lo, Pitbull and the crossovers Rihanna, PSY and Chris Brown are also among the competitors of the 2013 Latin Billboard Awards.
