May Day, Mother's Day, May showers and flowers all come to mind when one thinks of May. The month is typically ripe with different entertainment opportunities in and around Sacramento. Music, wine, dance, fairs, festivals and Memorial Day celebrations abound in the city and the hills. You can explore the following What's up for May short list from among the many options available in May. The parks are open, the rivers still streaming even if low, the flowers are blooming and children are eager to be outdoors along side their family and friends.

Sacramentans might want to start filling up their calendars and making some hard choices. Many events takes place on the same day, same weekend. The Sacramento Music Festival competes with the Sacramento County Fair on their annual Memorial Day weekend schedule. Cinco de Mayo finds people pulling out the barbeques and filling the cooler with some good brew or visiting their favorite pubs and eateries that feature Cinco de Mayo specials.

Many overlook May Day and it has little significance but Mother's Day on May 11th should never be ignored by anyone who cares about their mother. After all, Mom is the one who either squeezed you through a narrow canal to greet life or adopted and fostered you through years of life's challenges as you grew to be who you are. Expressing gratitude nurtures respect and let's the important people in your life know that they are loved. It doesn't take a huge effort to make a mother feel extra special on Mother's Day or any day of the year. It doesn't require hundreds of dollars, thousands of hours, or "blood, sweat and tears" although if you want to show up and mow her lawn or dig a new tree planting hole or vacuum and mop her entire house, that bit of effort will go far in how good you feel about yourself as well as making your mother glow!
