What are the German shepherds up to this weekend?

Coastal GSR of San Diego

Every weekend around the country various German shepherd rescues hold events to make those in the community aware of the need of forever homes for these beautiful animals. They offer information on the breed and other educational literature for their rescue and this noble breed.

Many of the rescues bring some of their dogs that are available, for fostering or forever homes, along for the public to meet.

You are able to meet these precious dogs and consider if one might be a suitable addition to your family. It is a way to see how they interact with you and loved ones.

If you have nothing special planned this weekend, drop by one of these meet and greets and shake a hand with a loving German shepherd. They would love your attention and maybe a belly rub.

If you know of a German shepherd rescue in your area I haven't listed please comment below or email me at the address shown, so I can include them in coming weeks. The rescues can use all the help we can give.

Axyl Coastal GSR of San Diego

Coastal German Shepherd Rescue of San Diego Adoption Event
Sat, 04/05/2014 - 11:00am – 1pm
Encinitas Town Center at Petsmart
1034 North El Camino Real Encinitas, CA 92024
AXYL is a 2 year old male who was picked up as a stray and brought to a public shelter. He was underweight and had lost some of his fur due to flea allergies. If that wasn't enough, he came down with kennel cough.
Axyl was taken in by the rescue and has taken some time to recover. He's finally been given a clean bill of health and is catching up on the kennel routine.
Axyl is still practically a puppy which means he is rambunctious, has lots of energy, is learning how to walk on a leash and to follow basic commands.
He still needs to gain some weight to fill out his long body. He’s ready for that family to love him.

Sampson German Shepherd Hope Rescue (Winston Salem)

German Shepherd Hope Rescue
Next Weekend
Saturday, April 12 at 11:00am
Pet Supermarkets in Winston-Salem, North Carolina

My name is Sampson and I am about 4 years, 5 months (estimate) old. I had a tough life before GSHR found me, but now I am healthy and ready to find my forever home.
I need a strong leader to follow and set clear but fair rules for me.

I'm told I look very serious but I like to play also, I just have to warm up to someone a little first.

I need a stable home where I can rely on my humans to take care of me and never hurt me.
Hugs, Sam

Next Weekend Adoption Event/Burlington

Petsmart-Burlington (336) 524-0229
1459 University Dr Burlington NC 27215

Hi, my name is Kenobi. I'm 8 years old and have spent most of my life on the end of a chain.
I'm still pretty thin but have spent the last few weeks getting a special diet to fatten me up.
Like most pups stuck on a chain I haven't had a lot of human contact but I have found out that I love everybody.
I'm potty trained and crate trained. I am high energy,
I love to play ball, go for long walks, runs, dog parks (very well behaved), fetch water toys, did I say I love tennis balls. I really do need someone who is very active.
I am a cuddle bug and I behave very well in the house. I have basic obedience down and can shake your hand too.

BIG BAKE SALE!! Bring your old cell phone to benefit the DOGS!!

Fluff and Puff
Fluff and Puff are a barrel of fun. They act more like young puppies than adult dogs.
Puff and Fluff did not get good care in their past lives:
Their once beautiful coats were matted and filthy, and their skin was dry and infected.
Fluff and Puff are on the mend and eager to start their new, better lives.
They are smaller in stature than many shepherds, but they have energy to burn.
Their ideal family will have plenty of time to train them, as no one spent time training them in their prior home.
The twins are seeking a home together. We will update their profiles as we learn more about them.

KT and Diezel

German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California Redwood City Adoption Event
Pet Food Express
372 Woodside Plaza, Redwood City
Apr 5, 11 AM - 2 PM
Diezel's Story:
Diezel is a 1 year old pure bred German shepherd who was purchased from a pet store as a puppy and eventually given to a person who loves animals, but did not have the training or skill to handle him.
Diezel is a healthy high energy dog. Prior to coming to rescue he had no training, so we sent him to puppy school to get him started in basic obedience. He just moved to a foster home on 3/28/14.
Diezel is very sensitive to training, he is has good food drive, needs only moderate corrections and takes correction well. He learns fast and is anxious to please. He is crate trained, and loves to ride in a car. After burning off his excess of energy with ball play, he walks fine on the leash

KT's Story:
KT a 2.5 year old female German shepherd who originally came to rescue from the shelter. She is a strong, solid who is affectionate and friendly to all people.
KT was sent to training and has an excellent start on basic obedience. She is house trained, crate trained and kennel trained. She does not chew. When her foster mom is at work she is allowed access to the house and yard and does not get into trouble. She sleeps free at night on her dog bed.

KT loves to go in the car, she easily hops into the back of a pickup truck. She rides great crated or free. At home she enjoys playing with toys that squeak. She LOVES to chase a ball and its a great way to give her exercise. KT loves to go on walks. She can be strong on leash but is good when wearing a prong collar.
KT is a dominant dog with strong prey drive. She has a rough and tumble play style that would not be appropriate for all dogs, KT should not live with dominant dogs, small dogs or a cat.

Come meet the vivacious Sheba

She is everything you would expect in a 9 month old German shepherd puppy. She's curious, energetic, naive, playful, silly, affectionate and smart.
She was surrendered to the shelter after her former family said she was too much for them..
She was well taken care of in her former home and now she needs her forever family to continue in her socialization and training so that she becomes a confident and well balanced shepherd.

She's got a lot going for her with her sweet, naive and inquisitive nature!

DESCRIPTION: Harlan is our birthday girl! She will be celebrating her 3rd birthday on Oct. 7.

In Harlen's previous home she lived with 2 other female dogs. Unfortunately Harlen and one of the other dogs were not getting along well as both wanted to be the alpha female. Since Harlan was the newest and youngest girl of the pack the family felt it best that they find Harlen a new home.

Harlen lived with children in her previous home. She is friendly with people, she is house broken, and crate trained and knows many commands.
If you are looking for a girl to take for walks, hikes, play fetch with, Harlen is your girl. Please set up an appointment to see if she is a good fit for your family.

Amber along with her sisters Sandy and Jo Jo were found roaming on their own. Luckily they were picked up and taken to a shelter which then contacted us.

Amber is just a baby and will require an infinite amount of patience, love, and positive training. Please, please do your research before you apply. Cute, fluffy puppies will grow up and become large dogs fast.

Puppies are a lot of work so please be sure that you have the time and patience it will take to raise a puppy to be a well-behaved and socialized adult; make sure you can make a commitment to a puppy that will last through their entire lifetime.

Cadence Southeast German Shepherd Rescue

Meet and Greet-Virginia Beach
Saturday April 5th, 2014 10:00 AM until 02:00 PM
Location: Fairfield Shopping Center
Map: Virginia Beach VA 23464

Cadence is a sweet, loving, one-year old girl who came into the rescue with her brother Brutus due to unfortunate family circumstances.
She has loads of energy and is extremely inquisitive. She took quickly to her foster siblings, but still is working out the play routines. She will playfully romp with her equal-weighted foster sister, but hasn't figured out that she's much bigger than her smaller foster brother.
Cadence is wary of strangers and will initially bark or growl when meeting new people. We feel that with continued socialization and obedience training to build confidence, she will quickly outgrow this phase.
She has mostly mastered "sit" and is learning "wait" and "down".
Cadence is house broken and will let you know when she needs to go out and doesn't lollygag...she does her "business" and is eager to get back inside to be with her family. Cadence is being fostered in Chesapeake, VA
