High pressure, that brought fair and cool weather to the region to close out the work week, is now southeast of the area, and a southerly to southwesterly surface wind is lightly blowing over the area. A slightly warmer day is on tap for today, thanks to the southerly component to the winds. In addition, a weakening cold front is approaching the region, from the northwest. The clouds from this disturbance were moving southeast, over Lake Ontario and central New York this morning. Filtered sunshine, through mid and high level cloud cover, are expected across the region today with a further increase in cloud cover this evening. A few spotty areas of drizzle or showers are possible, particularly to the north and west of the immediate Capital Region, though nothing major is anticipated in terms of rainfall.
The front clears the region quickly tomorrow morning, and a Canadian high pressure system moves into the area to close out the weekend. Fair and breezy conditions are expected on Sunday, and with temperatures struggling to make it to 70 in most spots, the breezy will no doubt make it feel like early autumn.
The high pressure system settles over the region Sunday night and Monday, moving to our southeast by Tuesday. This allows a warm front to approach the region Tuesday, and pass through the area Tuesday night and into Wednesday. A blast of warmer air is expected with this feature, along with numerous showers and a few thunderstorms as the air will turn increasingly more humid.
A potent cold front is forecast to sweep through the region Thursday afternoon and evening next week, putting an end to the brief spell of heat and humidity, and providing the chance for some showers and storms. Cooler and drier weather returns to the region for the end of next week and into the coming weekend.
