Valentine’s Day dining in Utah

It’s Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 14, 2013 and that means lots of talk about romance and special events. Just about every restaurant in the city will be offering some type of special for the evening (and many a few days following into the weekend)—from prix fixe menus to special deals. If you and your special love decide to dine out, you’ll have plenty to choose from (and plenty of others to share it with!). Here are just a few of my favorites.

Salt Lake City

Log Haven The regular dinner menu plus holiday specials will be available from 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 13-16. Live music will be offered Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Call 801-272-8255 for reservations.

Oasis Cafe will offer a four-course $40 menu on Thursday, Feb. 14. He will offer special selections from it from Friday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 17 in addition to his nightly menu. Reservations are highly suggested and can be made by calling 801-322-0404.

Cucina Vanina will offer a four-course menu at $50 per person on Feb. 14. The same menu will be offered on Wednesday, Feb. 13 for just $42 per person. Live music. Call for reservations 801-938-9706.

Tin Angel will feature a black out menu Thursday, Feb. 14 through Saturday, Feb. 16. Four courses are available for $40 or $65 with wine pairing. The second course comes with a blindfold so it's a surprise! Reservations are strongly recommended. 801-328-4155. The regular menu will also be available.

Faustina has created a special five-course $50 menu from Thursday, Feb. 14 through Saturday, Feb. 16 along with the nightly menu. On Valentine's evening, Tuesday, Feb. 14, Chef Sotelo will offer only his set menu with expanded multiple options for each course. Reservations are highly suggested and can be made by calling 801-746-4441.

DoJo is serving a three-course, set-price meal for $50 per couple on Thursday, Feb. 14 from 5:30-10 p.m. Call 801-328-3333 for reservations.

Bambara will offer Valentine’s Day specials from Thursday, Feb. 14 through Saturday, Feb. 16 in addition to a new winter dinner menu. Bambara pastry chef Rebecca Moore has created a special decadent dessert perfect for sharing -- a warm chocolate ganache cake with peanut butter Anglaise and peanut butter heart candy. Early reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 801-363-5454.

Finca is serving a four-course tasting menu with three or four options per course (vegetarian options available). Dinner reservations can be made from 5-10 p.m. Cost is $45 per person with wine pairings for an additional $35. Call 801-487-0699.

Caffe Niche is offering a special four-course Valentine's dinner for $50 per person. A new classic cocktail menu and revamped wine list complement Chef Lappe's culinary creations. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 801-433-3380.

Take Out

Chef Victoria Topham of Pinon Market & Cafe is preparing a special Valentine's dinner for two this year. Beautifully gift wrapped and ready to take home, each meal comes with complete heating instructions. Dinner includes creamy shallot and pea soup, green salad, rolls, choice of entrée (orange and pistachio-crusted halibut or sweet potato orzo cakes) and chocolate cherry black forest pie. Cost is $60 for two adults (no single orders) and must be ordered by Tuesday, February 12 at 3 p.m. Orders can be picked up at Pinon on Valentine's Day, Thursday, February 14 between 5 and 7 p.m. You can also pick up other items to go day of including additional desserts.

Cuisine Unlimited has created three options for in-home Valentine's dining: Cupid's Dinner ($33 per person), Hearts and Roses ($26.75 per person) and Forget Me Not ($26.75 per person, vegetarian and gluten-free option). Cuisine Unlimited's Valentine's dinners can be picked up from the Cuisine catering kitchens or delivery is available additionally. Communal will be offering a four-course menu for $55 per person that will include chocolate from local Amano Chocolate, fried oyster, seared scallops, beef tenderloin, and more. Individually selected non-alcoholic beverages and wine pairings will be available for an additional charge. Reservations are required, please call 801-373-8000.
