If the explosion of hearts and flowers in every grocery and big box store in the Huntsville area hasn’t tipped you off, yet, Valentine's Day is nearly here. Whether you face it with the excitement of a new romance or the dread of fighting other desperate parents for the last Fun Dip Valentine on the candy aisle at Kroger, the celebration of romance with all of its trappings gives us another excuse to consider what to wear.

Your approach to the night may vary, but whatever your plans, or who you celebrate Valentines with, it’s lovely to look and feel fabulous-- especially in February. While you might be of a mind to run out and buy something brand spanking new for the occasion, time and experience make most of us a little wary of ensembles meant for one night only—even underpinnings. So, consider the following combinations, most of which are based on favorite go-to pieces already in your closet.

Sometimes you want to skip the crowds and just stay in. Whether that entails cookie dough, Doritos and Casablanca or a candlelit meal of Stracatto al Chianti, and a nice bottle of Toscana, a pretty slip dress makes a fetching combination with a cozy sweater and an edgy pendant. Shoes are obviously optional, but a thigh-high sock adds chalet-inspired sex appeal.

Maybe for you, Valentine’s is a time to celebrate the people you love and rely on the most. A dinner with your best buds at a casual spot (followed up by a few beers perhaps) calls for a more relaxed approach. A favorite pair of dark jeans is sharpened up with a bold blazer and a very sexy pair of heels. If a floral blazer is just too much, add a bright statement necklace with your favorite navy workweek staple. Either way--Voila! Instant insouciance!

Equally acceptable if you and your significant other are heading out for burgers and beers at Drake's. After all you fell in love because you were the "girl next door."

Closet classics and staples combine and create a sexy, pulled-together look suitable for a romantic dinner at your favorite restaurant. Sleek pumps pair with your favorite black pencil, and get directional with a slinky, silky top. Finish it with an edgy black motorcycle jacket and a bit of sparkle on your ears and wrists.
