Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith usually lets his play do the talking in his 13th season -- but in this game criticism on the field from St. Louis Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins got the former Utah Utes star riled up enough to say plenty.
It was a rough weekend for Utah fans as the Utes lost 35-24 in the high desert to the Arizona Wildcats.
But Smith made up for the Utes' woes, and a weak start to his 2013 season with a big day despite Jenkins' non-stop trash talking during the Panthers 30-15 win over the Rams.
It was like watching vintage Steve -- not the reformed family man Steve -- on Sunday afternoon as the 34-year-old veteran absorbed the criticism levied his way and still had a huge game in which he burned Jenkins for a touchdown -- and ran his mouth to Jenkins only after he made the youngster look like a fool.
Jenkins (pictured) then pulled the ultimate rookie move, making excuses for missing the tackle against Smith.
"He talk no trash until he got that one Td.. #LuckyOne #checkMate," Jenkins tweeted after the game.

Plus, Cottonwood High School is in the house, as former Colt Stanley Havili had his first touchdown of the year in a different Colt uniform -- for Indianapolis.
And former Utah Utes star Alex Smith is still undefeated with Kansas City. He's now tied a league record.
