Utah Utes baseball falls to Pac 12 opponent Cal in the home opener

Utes leadoff hitter Kody Davis had two hits in four at-bats, scored one run and struck out once. The freshman infielder is currently batting .351 AVE/.378 SLG/.415 OBP.Designated hitter Trey Nielsen wielded a hot bat for the Utes, going 3-for-4, driving in one RBI and scoring one run. Nielsen was caught stealing in the second inning. Chase Rezac came in to relieve Mitch Watrous in the seventh inning and ended up with the loss for the Utes. A flurry of five runs in the sixth inning by the Utah Utes wasn’t enough to defeat the Cal Bears, who won the Utes home opener, 9-5, on Friday. For the Bears, Trevor Hildenberger got the win and Keaton Siomkin earned his first save. Chase Rezac was scored with the loss.
