Upcoming programs at Sugar Grove Nature Center

On Wednesday, March 20, children between the ages of three and five are invited to Little Wonders: Furry Friends in Our Forest. Through a story, a snack and a craft, kids will learn about the animals that live near Sugar Grove Nature Center, such as deer, raccoons and coyotes. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $5 for members of the center and $8 for non-members. Advance registration is required. Call 309-874-2174 for information.The Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association will demonstrate their craft at Sugar Grove Nature Center from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, March 16. The demonstration will take place at the forge, across the parking lot from the Nature Center. During the blacksmith program, acoustic Irish music will be played in the Nature Center. No registration is required for these free activities.The Twin City Amateur Astronomers group invites the public to an astronomy viewing session at Sugar Grove Nature Center from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. The evening's observations will focus on Jupiter and the Galilean moons. The program will include a presentation and a sky tour. If the sky is overcast, the sky tour will be replaced by a tour of the Sugar Grove Observatory, and the entire program will be cancelled if the weather is rainy. Sugar Grove is located in Funks Grove in McLean County. It's off of Old Route 66, south of Bloomington. The Nature Center's March hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday. The outdoor areas, including the grounds, trails and Imagination Grove, are open daily from dawn until dusk. Call 309-874-2174 for information about the center.

  • Families are invited to Campfire Program: Coyotes and Cocoa at Sugar Grove Nature Center from 6:30-8 p.m. on Friday, March 22. The evening will begin with learning about coyotes and making a craft. Participants will then go outside, where they'll howl at the moon and have s'mores and hot cocoa around the campfire. This program is free for members of the center and $5 per person for non-members. Please register in advance. Call 309-874-2174 for information.
