Upcoming Peoria programs for exploring the natural world

The Peoria Park District invites families to Kite Making and Flying from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. Come to the Forest Park Nature Center at 5809 Forest Park Dr., Peoria Heights, Ill. to make your kite, then join the caravan to nearby Detweiller Park to send your kite soaring into the air. This class is for children ages five and up; kids must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $4 for C.O.R.E. members and $5 for non-members. Pre-registration is required; sign up online at the park district's registration site. Call 309-686-3360 for information on the kite-making program. The Peoria Zoo is holding a homeschool class about reptiles and amphibians on from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13. It's Not Easy Being Green will give kids an exciting science experience that involves animal encounters and other hands-on activities. This class is for homeschoolers between the ages of five and 13; kids may be divided into two age groups. Parents are welcome to stay, but they are not required to do so. Prospect Rd., Peoria, Ill.The Peoria Public Library is hosting Stormy Weather Pajama Storytime from 7-7:45 p.m. on Monday, March 11. Kids will learn about wild weather through books, activities and music. Children are invited to wear their pajamas and bring a blanket to sit on. People of all ages are welcome. Using recycled materials, kids will make and decorate birdfeeders. Participants should wear clothes that can get messy. This program is open to kids ages five through 11.
