The Evolution Fighting Game Championships are coming up this July in Las Vegas. Already, one of the new titles scheduled to come out in June, Ultra Street Fighter 4, has been announced to be a part of the event. Since Evo, is pretty much the biggest tournament until the Capcom Cup Finals being end towards the end of this year, what games are we looking forward to seeing be a part of the tournament scene next season?
Under Night In Birth: Exe Late
This new fighter has already been labeled one of the hottest new fighting games this year and it hasn't been released state side yet. Released in the arcades last year by Sega and Ecole software, UNIB's update released for PS3 in July through Arc Systems. Made by the creators of the Melty Blood series, this can be seen as a spiritual successor.
Super Smash Bros 4
The latest edition of Nintendo's flagship fighting game franchise, Super Smash Bros 4, is set for release later this year for their WiiU and 3DS consoles and handhelds. Among the new changes are new characters, most notably Little Mac from the Punch Out series, Villager from Animal Crossing, the Trainer from Wii-Fit, and Megaman from the Megaman series.
Guilty Gear Xrd
Finally counting to 3, and not the XXX people were looking forward to, Arc System released to arcades earlier this year with console ports on the PS3/4 set for later this year. Unlike the previous release X2, this is a true fighting game sequel to the wildly popular GGXX series that received multiple versions.
Though few may have actually heard the announcement when it was made, it was announced at Wondercon that a sequel to the DC fighting game from NetherRealm Studios, Injustice Gods Among Us, was in the works. Very little information was available except for the news that it would not be ready this year.
Persona 4 the Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold
Arc System Works proves to be one of the busiest fighting game makers out there with another title hitting the arcades with their sequel to the Persona 4 franchise, Persona 4 the Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold. Released in the arcades late last year, console releases are expected later this year. Some of the changes include Shadow versions of all the characters, and 4 new additions including support idol Rise joining the fracas.
Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax
Ecole and Sega have teamed up with Dengeki Bunko to celebrate their 20th anniversary with a fighting game featuring popular characters from all of their light novel series. Included are Kuroyukihime from Accel World, Kirito and Asuna from Sword Art Online, Mikoto Misaka from To Aru Majutsu no Index, Shana from Shakugan no Shana, Shizuo Heiwajima from Durarara!!, and Kirino Kosaka from Oreimo. Also included are Sega's franchise Vitrua Fighter characters Akira and Pai as bosses. The game was released in arcades last month, but no news about console release as of yet.
Tekken X Street Fighter
First announced simultaneously with Capcom's Street Fighter X Tekken, Namco's version, Tekken X Street Fighter has taken a while to gain some traction. It may have been for the best with the dismal reception SFxT received. It has been rumored that the game may be released late this year, but definitely appears to have news released during E3.
Arcana Heart 3 Love Max!
While not the brightest star on most people's gaming map, Arcana Heart 3 is getting an update release called Arcana Heart 3 Love Max! set for next month for the PS3 and Vita consoles. While nothing major was added to the game, it features new re-balancing and the survival and training modes introduced to the arcade version.
Ultra Street Fighter 4
Last but not least, the most anticipated game of the year, Ultra Street Fighter 4 makes its grand return and latest update since 2012. Among the new features are the introduction of red focus, dual ultra settings, edition select, shared training mode, team modes, and 5 new characters. It was released earlier this month in Japan. If you lucky to attend Texas Showdown you got to try out USF4, otherwise you will have to wait until June for the state side release.
