UFC World Champion and pound-for-pound king of MMA Jon Jones defends his light heavyweight title against a top-ranked challenger who can match him in speed, size and youth in Alexander Gustafsson. Both men have been calling for the showdown and finally, the biggest light heavyweight clash of the year is on. UFC 165 takes place Saturday, September 21 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada.
Jon Jones became the youngest champion in the history of the UFC when he defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128, in 2011. This weekend Jones can set another record if he can get past Gustafsson. Jones has made five successful title defenses, tying Tito Ortiz for the most UFC light heavyweight title defenses, one more victory would be another accomplishment to the young career of Jones.
Alexander Gustafsson is known as “The Mauler” who has an aggressive style and body structure that could be a threat to Jones. The dynamic striker and ground and pound specialist from Stockholm, Sweden also defeated “Showgun” Rua in a fight that earned him a title shot. “This fight means everything to me,” Gustafsson said to Examiner.com. “It is was my goal to be a part of the UFC and now it is my goal to be champion”.
