TV moms in the news: 'Bunheads,' Judith Light on ' 'Dallas,' and 2013 pilots

 Next in our TV Moms news extravaganza, we discovered that Judith Light (“Who’s the Boss) will be appearing throughout season 2 of “Dallas” as Harris Ryland’s mother, Judith Ryland. She’ll first appear in the Feb. 4 episode of “Dallas,” Sins of the Father. In the TNT character profile, Light’s character is described as “A controlling and authoritative mother. Her smile is 74 years of practiced social graces and thinly veiled contempt for anyone she considers beneath her…she will do anything to protect the ones she loves from the Ewing family.”Watch season 2 of “Dallas” Monday’s on TNT at 9 p.m./8 c.  Perhaps there’s something to Michelle’s mama issues, as virtually every great childhood memory Scotty has was apparently faked:“Mom used to take us on fake trips…She’d put us in the car really late at night and then drive us around for hours until we fell asleep, and then when we woke up, she’d convince us that we had a really fun adventure.”Tune in for new episodes of “Bunheads” Mondays on ABC Family at 9 p.m./8 c.  We got our first look at one member of Michelle’s family during last week’s episode of “Bunheads,” I’ll Be Your Meyer Lansky, with the arrival of Michelle’s brother Scotty (Hunter Foster, who is also Sutton Foster’s real-life brother). With his unexpected appearance we also got a glimpse into an obviously troubled family history – one that left Michelle completely cutting off any relationship with their mother. You might think that Feb. 4, 2013 was just another day, but in the delightfully frivolous land of TV it was a bonanza of TV mom news and alerts. After teasing some less-than-stellar family history, “Bunheads” will be adding an important TV mom to the mix; meanwhile “Dallas” is gifting us with a TV mom that will certainly have no issues being the boss during her season 2 appearances; and we’ve learned of a TV delight returning to the small screen in this upcoming pilot season.

  •  Finally, we learned via TV|Line that Linda Lavin has been cast as TV mom to Sean Hayes’ (“Will & Grace”) character in his yet-to-be-titled NBC comedy pilot, “Centering on a man attempting to both parent the teenage daughter who just moved in and appease a temperamental new boss.” Lavin is perhaps best known for starring as the title character of “Alice,” though she has a slew of TV and film credits to her name, including appearances in “The O.C.,” “The Sopranos,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” and “Wanderlust.”Stay tuned for more info on Hayes’ latest foray into TV land…We know we can’t wait!
