As a child, whenever I was sick and had to stay home from school, I watched TV. Back in those days, the only entertaining morning shows for a kid were game shows: "The Price Is Right", "Jeopardy", "Let's Make a Deal", etc.
As I watched those shows, I dreamed of "the day" when I could win lots of cash, a cool car, or a fun vacation. I can't imagine how often I longed for that chance and fantasized how excited my family would be when I won -- just as those programs portray at the end of each show.
Well, we all know what it is like when wide-eyed childhood fantasies are crushed by the harsh and unforgiving realities of real life. However, one of the most fascinating aspects of human nature is the amazing persistence of human hopes and dreams -- despite the innumerable times we have seen such hopes and dreams dashed to the ground.
I venture to say that, excluding those who have been major winners at one or more of the biggest game shows in months past -- 90-95% of U.S. adults still harbor a warm, fuzzy dream of some day being in "the winner's circle" at a TV game show!
So for everyone who has had such a dream, or still nurtures that dream, here are some "doses of reality" that come courtesy of Andrea Schwartz, who was a big winner at "The Price is Right".http://www.avclub.com/articles/what-happens-when-you-win-the-price-is-right,101445/ She won an all-expense trip to Acapulco, a red Mazda 2 car, a pool table, a shuffle board table, and some cash. That sounds like a pretty incredible deal to me-- don't you agree?
Ah, but that's not the "full story"... and it is certainly not "the full picture". Just consider these realities:
