It's spring in the southwest and time to get back on your bike for some fun rides with your family and friends. Check out a part of Tucson you haven't seen before, and meet new friends too!
Celebrate spring with two community bike rides in March, presented by Living Streets Alliance (LSA) and El Grupo Youth Cycling.
This Saturday, March 9, head downtown for the Old Pueblo Gran Prix, “the fastest bike race in the west.” Register with LSA at the Vendor Village Expo (on Stone Avenue, in front of the St. Augustine Cathedral) at 4:30 pm for a FREE Community Bike Parade along the closed, car-free race course before the professional racers begin their program. The Community Bike Parade begins at 5:00 pm. Races begin at 6:00 pm.
Living Streets Alliance’s popular Kidical Mass rides return on Saturday, March 23 at Catalina Park, South 4th Avenue and East 2nd Street, at 10:00 am and will feature a cruise down Tucson’s newest bicycle amenity– the Fourth Avenue/ Fontana Bicycle Boulevard. Pima Association of Governments (PAG) is also hosting a free neighborhood bicycle repair workshop also on Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Keeling Desert Park, 245 E. Glenn St.
Kidical Mass rides are family-friendly, law-abiding rides designed to bring families together to ride safely as a group. Ride leaders and sweepers are present to assist in making sure no one is left behind. All parents are asked to take responsibility for their children on the road for the safety of all. Participants are encouraged to bring their helmets, however a limited supply of children’s helmets will be provided for FREE at both events courtesy of the City of Tucson Bicycle and Pedestrian Program.
