According to a March 17 report from Bloody Elbow, Daron Cruickshank survived a wardrobe malfunction at UFC 158, but he couldn't survive John Makdessi's heavy hands.
Cruickshank apparently lost his fight shorts during his flight to Montreal for UFC 158, as they were in a tube that broke open.
"Things like that happen," he said of the wardrobe malfunction incident. "You lose your luggage. Hotels don't have saunas, and you have to go searching for a sauna. All that stuff I put behind me and concentrate on the task ahead."
Cruickshank's sticky situation certainly falls under the traditional definition of "wardrobe malfunction," as it was an instance that describes a problem with a part of one's clothing.
The tube containing Cruickshank's fight shorts also held his sponsor banner. That could have been a major problem, as failing to properly display the banner would have cost Cruickshank serious sponsor money during his fight.
Luckily the banner was easily replaced and Cruickshank wore some cute shorts during the UFC 158 bout.
However, come fight night, Cruickshank fell short against Makdessi.
The lightweight bout was part of the preliminary card of Saturday's UFC 158 event at Bell Centre in Montreal. It aired on FX following additional prelims on Facebook and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view.
Makdessi defeated Cruickshank via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28), which snapped a two-fight skid.
In Cruickshank's honor, here's a look back at the top wardrobe malfunctions in MMA history.
