Top Romantic places for a Valentines date in Portland

The Portland Japanese Garden is located in the center of downtown. It's a hidden jewel in the center of the concrete jungle that has been deemed the most realistic Japanese garden outside of Japan. It is a tranquil setting that is a beautiful design for a peaceful Valentine's Day date. You will be able to see authentic Japanese trees, shrubbery, and flowers but also koi fish, architecture, and garden structures.If you are interested in learning about making your own Japanese garden at home,  you can post pone your Valentine's date until a date that offers classes on gardening or any other topic. Not only would it make for a special date, but you will learn something new too. Portlanders don't get to do any of that fun ice skating outside in a romantic setting like New Yorker's do. While most don't think that ice skating in the mall is romantic, consider all the things involved; getting all bundled up, skating hand in hand, hugs when you fall. The Lloyd Center Ice Rink is a cheaper option for a Valentine's Day date for those that might be strapped for cash so soon after the Christmas holiday. Not only is there public transportation available to get to the mall, and once finished ice skating, shopping and the food court are conveniently located. While it may not be the most romantic idea, it is one of the best options for a low-key date on a budget.The International Rose Test Garden is a beautiful place for a date, even if your Valentine doesn't like roses. There are several hundreds of different types of roses all over the garden from all over the world. The city is known as the Rose City because of its perfect climate for growing roses. Most people don't consider Portland to be a very romantic city because of all the breweries, bars and strip clubs. What they don't see is all the beautiful things that are sitting right next to all those places that they aren't as fond of.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner there are several options for a romantic date. Many of the upscale hotels in downtown Portland, such as the Benson Hotel, (pictured) have a rich music history with its many legendary guests to its beautiful architectural history. If you don't plan on spending the night there, it is still a romantic place for a date.

  • Multnomah Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in the area that also offers hiking, a gorgeous view, and a bridge that several weddings have happened on. Like any state park, you can't hike the falls after dark, but there is plenty of daylight available on Valentine's Day for a hug and a romantic picnic with the view of the falls. if you want to stay, the Multnomah Falls Lodge can house you for a romantic evening in with a view of the falls as well. 
  • The Portland Classical Chinese Garden is another serene spot for a Valentine's Day date. The beautiful Chinese architecture is fantastic, and the plants and tea are authentic. There is a lantern ceremony and a history of various events that happen throughout the year. Public tours are available daily and the whole family is welcome if that is how you plan to spend your Valentine's Day. For beautiful scenery in a tranquil space, the Portland Classical Chinese Garden is a great place to go.
  • The Timberline Lodge is just outside of city limits and a perfect place for a Valentine's date full of snow, skiing, a beautiful mountain setting, and fresh air outside of the city. This is a more expensive option for those just looking for a date but it is one of the funnest options available before the snow melts for the spring. The skiing is good and the lodge is a nice romantic spot to get a room for the night. Roasting by the fire with a nice glass of wine, what could get more romantic than that?
