Republicans are projected by many pundits to have a good chance of retaking a majority of the senate seats in the 2014 election. Democrats have a number of seats in more Republican-leaning states, where popular incumbents are not running for reelection where Republicans have a good probability of gaining those seats. Additionally, Democrats are defending more seats as the current holders of the senate majority, and in many instances they have incumbents running in increasingly Republican-leaning states that may be defeated in 2014 for that reason.
If Republicans win all of these five senate races, they will have a great chance of regaining the majority it the senate after the 2014 election. Democrats will have win most of them if not all of them to have any chance of holding on to their majority in the United States Senate. These of these five have incumbents running for reelection while the West Virginia and Montana races are open seats.
