Republicans are projected by most pundits being likely to hold their majority in Congress, if not gain a few more seats, in the 2014 election. Democrats have a number of seats in more Republican-leaning states, where Republicans have a chance to gain a few seats. Also, Democrats have more members of Congress either resigning or giving up their seats to run for higher office, putting some districts in the category of competitive races. Of the five seats on this list, three of them are currently held by Democrats.
If Republicans win all of these five Congressional seats, they will have a great chance of retaining the majority or expanding it in 2014 election. Democrats are highly unlikely to gain a majority of Congress in the 2014 election simply because there are not enough competitive seats, that they have a chance to win, for them to gain enough seats to win a majority. The convention wisdom is, that the GOP keeps its majority in Congress.
