2013 was a huge year for EDM music. It was the year Avicii went mainstream, the year Eric Prydz finally became a household name, and the year Zedd became an international sensation with his hit "Clarity."
Picking the top five tracks of 2013 is a difficult task, especially because there were so many groundbreaking songs. But few of the songs hit the cultural landscape button like "Animals," by Martin Garrix. The song's trip-hop beats and musically mind-blowing synths made this song a number one hit all around the world.
Lana Del Rey might have experienced a backlash in 2012, but--thankfully--her song "Summertime Sadness" was remixed by Cedric Gervais and gave her a huge hit. Thankfully, Lana is working on more tracks with Gervais for her next album.
In many interviews, Zedd claims he had a hard time finding the right person to sing "Clarity" until he found the right voice in English singer Foxes. The song has gone on to sell more than 5 million copies on iTunes worldwide.
Without further ado, here is our list of the top five EDM songs from 2013.
5-'Reload' by Ingrosso
"Reload" has sold over a million copies since its release in 2013. The song has also turned Sebastian Ingrosso into a mainstream star. This is one jam you will still be hearing years from now.
4-'So Good to Me' by Chris Malinchak
"So Good to Me" started off as a slow burning hit on Sirius XM's "Pulse" station and soon went mainstream. Malinchak is currently working on Debbie Gibson's comeback album.
3-'Clarity' by Zedd
"Clarity" is 2013's biggest selling international EDM song. Unfortunately, Zedd didn't have the same success when working with Lady Gaga on her album ARTPOP.
2-'Summertime Sadness" by Lana Del Rey
"Summertime Sadness," when first released, had a hard time hitting the mainstream charts. Once Cedric Gervais remixed the song, it became a major EDM hit.
1-'Animals' by Martin Garrix
"Animals" was nominated for several Grammy Awards and deserved to be. The song does a lot without hardly any lyrics. The beat just puts you into another world.
