Top 5 U.S. music festivals

Bonnaroo is one of the larger music festivals which offers on-site camping creating a sort of mini city. It takes place in Manchester, TN June 13-16 so it can get hot, in fact their web site states showers are recommended. This makes camping sound a little tricky but there are always hotels for the non-adventurous. This is a green festival which promotes a nouveau hippy mentality, encouraging festival goers to take it all in but also to contribute much like an artist creates. Some cool offerings include Yoga which takes place at their solar powered stage, a kid's tent, a water slide and a cinema.If you're a fan of electronic dance music Ultra is for you since it is mostly dedicated to the genre. It takes place in March during Music Week in beautiful Miami. It offers multiple stages of thumping beats and many hours of fun watching people in bizarre outfits. You can even take the whole week off and check out the rest of the Music Week events which take place in clubs and hotels throughout downtown and S. Beach.This festival has been going for 20 years although it changed from a touring festival to a set location at Grant Park in Chicago. Lollapalooza takes place Aug. 2-4, the line-up is not available at this time. Last years artists included Jack White, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fun and a bunch more. The line-up for this festival, which includes Kings of Leon, Block Party and the Dirty Projectors, was being compared to Coachella's when they were both announced in January. Governor's line-up is significantly smaller to Coachella's although it does pack a punch. The price is slightly lower at $220 for a 3 day pass so you can probably manage to attend both.  A couple of interesting features of this festival are the Silent Disco and free filtered water refills.

There are so many music festivals to choose from these days it’s difficult to determine which one will be the most entertaining for you. Ticket prices for these festivals are pretty high so you want to make sure you choose the best bang for your buck. These festivals offer up numerous musical acts from 50 to 200 artists spanning 1 to 3 days. You can see all your favorite bands in a short amount of time without the need to go to individual shows later. So in a way you can actually save and make a vacation out of it. You have to pace yourself at the longer festivals and plan a schedule of who you want to see, if not you can end up with empty pockets and no memories.

  • There was a lot of controversy when this year's Coachella line-up was announced. There will be some not incredibly well known bands (to the young'ins that is) headlining. The festival sold out anyway for both weekends in April. From the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Roses and Lou Reed to Grizzly Bear, Beach House and Local Natives the line-up is actually unique in that it relates to a wide range of age groups .  The festival campsite provides unique VIP accommodations including tee pees and resort like Safari Tents.
