Why not get into the vacation spirit early by getting out in Atlanta and exploring some of the many events? To help you narrow down your options, here are the top five transit-friendly activities this month to to help you plan a car-free adventure.

The Shaky Knees Music Fest might just outdo Music Midtown when it comes to a jam-packed weekend of live music. This year the event will take place at Atlantic Station instead of the Masquerade. A single-day ticket cost $84, or pay $169 for three days of bands, including Modest Mouse on Saturday, May 10.

The same weekend as Shaky Knees, the Sweet Auburn Springfest offers family-friendly fun along the new Atlanta Streetcar corridor on Auburn Avenue. Enjoy free live music, dance and other demonstrations. Choose from two MARTA stations for your trip, which gives you the option to arrive at one and exit at the other if you would rather not walk back and forth along the length of the festival.

Head out to Piedmont Park over Memorial Day weekend for the Atlanta Jazz Festival. In addition to enjoying the beautiful greenspace overlooking the Midtown skyline, there's endless music to enjoy as well as an artist market. Use the Midtown or Arts Center MARTA station to get to all the action.

Featuring Roger Bobb as the Grand Marshall, Karlie Redd (Love and Hip Hop) and Dwight Eubanks (Real Housewives of Atlanta), along with bands and masqueraders, the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival parade starts at noon outside the Civic Center MARTA station and travels through Centennial Olympic Park to Herndon Stadium. (You can also exit at the Dome MARTA station to view the parade route.) The fun continues with live music in the stadium throughout the day.

A Memorial Day tradition, the Decatur Arts Festival takes over the Decatur Square with a juried artist market, live music, dance, literary and performing arts events. With the festival located directly about the station, it's a breeze to get to.
