Top 5 grown-up moments of ‘Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta’s’ ‘Turnt Up’ episode

We have seen a lot of “ratchetness” on “Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta.” This recent episode, aptly called “Turnt Up”, definitely lived up to the title. But even though this installment was filled with all the ridiculousness we’ve come to love (and hate), it was also sprinkled with what we could call “grown-up moments.” Indeed, it appears that some of the participants on this reality show are learning how to act like adults. Check out these highlights…

Ariane’s Audition

Despite suffering some sort of malady, K. Michelle’s friend Ariane auditioned to be one of her back-up singers.    The result wasn’t so fabulous ---promptly pointed out by one of K.’s panel judges, who hurled insults at the reality star.   But instead of using the opportunity to pop off, Ariane admitted that she didn’t perform well during the audition and took the high road.

DJ Traci Steele was offered every chance to make her event a drink-throwing, weave-pulling affair of all time, after approaching Kirk Frost about the status of his marriage.    She is clearly upset that he has apparently betrayed her friend. But instead of getting “turned up” when she gets wind of his log cabin activities, she dials it down and politely exits the situation without making a scene.    Kudos to her.

DJ Babey Drew had his own Grown Up Moment when he offered to take his ex-girlfriend Traci and her new boyfriend out to dinner.   In a previous episode, he clowned the guy (and himself) in public, and wants to make amends.   Drew’s offer of dinner may seem innocent.   But he wants to get a good look at the man hanging around his child. That’s a good ulterior motive to have.   Although it seems that these two really need to take care of that unresolved romantic business, they are at least making a concerted effort to co-parent well for their child.

This is the face of sheer disappointment.   Although Lil’ Scrappy's sadness probably shouldn’t qualify as a grown-up moment.  But the instant he realizes that Erica has pawned his engagement ring, he looks as if he is about to break. You can feel the tears welling up through the screen.  It doesn’t help that in the next few moments he’s explaining exactly how badly he really feels.   Unfortunately, it is this particular revelation that prompts the ensuing brawl between their “turned up” mamas.

Stevie invites his ex-girlfriend/baby mama Mimi to lunch, all the while making sexual innuendos and speaking in code.   But Mimi is hip to his game.   When Stevie implies that they should have a rendezvous in exchange for his gift of the BMW, she doesn’t take it too kindly.   She promptly hands the keys over to Stevie and says that when she accepted the gift with no strings attached, she really meant it.  The next scene shows her outside the restaurant proudly calling a taxi.   A triumphant moment in Love & Hip-Hop history.
