The skateboarding genre of games went off after the first release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Every year from 1999 to 2009 (except for 2008), one game in the main series of Tony Hawk has given Activision (video game publisher) reason to create a new installment, which they did in 2012.

  • A video editor, skate lounge, and at the time, the largest total skate area helped the game escape with an average review. Proving Ground was the last game in the series using the traditional controller.

  • The series changed here by focusing more on story and the opportunity to turn an amateur skater into a professional. You can also create a deck, trick or goal, as well as, walking and driving different vehicles. Once again, the series earned excellent ratings.
  • Creating a skater and park from scratch, with the addition of the manual, sent the first sequel skyrocketing in reviews and sales, making it a franchise.
  • The addition of reverts, with the manuals from THPS2, produced huge combos, which led to enormous high scores. The game’s graphics improved, making this game in the Tony Hawk series the best rated at the time of release.
