Hello my friends. Rooster Teeth recently released their Top 15 Let’s Plays of 2013. But I have to say, I was disappointed to see a few key videos missing.
Here are the Rooster Teeth Examiner’s Top 10 Let’s Plays of 2013!
10. Let's Play WWE '13
Geoff reminded the AH Crew that they can't beat Wall Street in this epic Let's Play. Toss this in with Gavin's freakishly terrifying character design and a cameo from Ray's dad, and there was no doubt that this was one of the classics. Sure it can get a bit long-winded, but it more than makes up for it with some hilarious commentary and worthwhile one-liners!
9. Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (Part 1)
In all honesty, I am not a huge fan of the gameplay, but this Let's Play is worth it, if only to see Gavin's stupid face on his character. Don't believe me? Check out Ray's reaction when he sees Gavin running away from a swarm of enemies, whining like a little baby. Then you'll understand.
8. Worms Revolution Part 1
I admit that I never expected much when the Worms Let's Plays started hitting the channel. But these things won me over in a hurry. Not only did they provide excellent comedic opportunities, but you can actually get the feeling that they are having a good time playing it as well. In short, its strength lies in its genuine hue.
7. Minecraft Wool Collecting Part 2
It's hard to stand out with so many awesome Minecraft Let's Plays to choose from. But Wool Collecting really delivered, using a simple, but still difficult task, that delivered the goods on entertainment. More significantly, it's the ending that makes this one so hilarious. If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend checking it out.
6. GTA V- Splat X
Building off of a hysterical Things to do..., Splat X had so many great things going for it. In addition to being a longer version of the already entertaining concept, it brought in a large cast to participate, including Kerry and Lindsey. Although you don't see these two often, their presence in this one separates it a bit from the other GTA V Let's Plays, giving it a fresh feeling.
5. STARWHAL: Just the Tip
Once again, this one spawned from a separate video (a VS between Ray and Michael). But by bringing in Ryan and Geoff, it brought some new dimension to the game, and viewers were able to enjoy the sheer chaos of the game. With such a simple, yet satisfying premise, Starwhal made for a fast-paced, engaging Let's Play that takes away from the usual long-winded format.
4. Galacticraft Part 3
It would be easy to write this one off as the one with all of the server issues, but Galacticraft Part 3 is unique in a number of ways. In addition to providing some hilarious freakouts concerning a lack of oxygen, the connectivity issues actually proved to be a strength for the episode. Sure it was a pain, but it lowered the barrier between the AH Crew and the viewers, allowing us to see the frustrations that they go to on a daily basis.
Easily taking the title as longest Let's Play ever (of all time?), Fuel clocks in at a whopping 1 hour and 54 minutes. There's not getting around it: it's a difficult task to make it through the whole video in one sitting (and even if you do, you may ponder what you're doing with your life). But overall, this Let's Play strayed away from the typical edited format, once again allowing viewers to get a genuine look at the AH Crew. It exists as an interesting harmony between behind-the-scenes and Let's Play.
2. Cops n' Crooks Part 1
Spawning what was arguably the best Let's Play series of 2013, Cops n' Crooks Part 1 was a welcome new direction for the channel. It's always fun to watch what many view as experienced gamers struggle with a new game or game type, and this video truly highlighted the fun that comes along with this. Why is it so high up on the list? Put simply, it was clear that they had a lot of fun playing this game type, and it translated really well onto the screen.
I may get a bit of flack for this, but I have to say that the Monopoly Let's Play was not high up on my list. It definitely had some redeeming qualities, but overall, it was a dud. That said, it did answer a question that I had been wondering for a long time: could Achievement Hunter make Monopoly bearable?
The answer: no. No they couldn't. I still find myself wanting to reach into that screen, flip the board over, and curse at how stupid the game is.
1. Minecraft- King Ryan Part 2
Although I don't condone animal cruelty, this Edgar-heavy episode couldn't be anything else but number one. In addition to having some fun tasks for the Lads and Gents to undertake, the twist ending is hysterical and is certain to be remembered for years to come. The short explanation: "Edgar is the one in the hole."
