According to the F.B.I., serial killers cause less than 1% of crime in the U.S.
So why are we so inundated with serial killer movies and television shows? What is our attraction to this evil subject matter?
Perhaps it's the unsettling notion of someone in our midst creating acts of savagery right under our noses. The idea of a seemingly benign, bland individual capable of such terror is a truly disturbing notion. The criteria for this list? Movies that deal with the realistic motivations, obsessions and rituals that define a sociopathic killer. So more supernatural slashers like Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees will be excluded.
