On this day in 1972 John Lindsay, New York governor, asks the federal authorities permission for John and Yoko's permanent residence in the US and the deportation process to be cancelled.

On this day in 1976 Bruce Springsteen, fresh from a Memphis concert, attempts to climb over the fence at Elvis Presley's Graceland estate trying to see Presley. He is escorted off the premises by guards who tell him the King isn’t even home.
