On this day in 2003 singer-songwriter, arranger, pianist and civil rights activist Nina Simone is laid to rest in Carry-Le-Rouet, France, with attendees including Miriam Makeba and gifts from luminaries like Elton John. She was 70.
On this day in 2007 singer Bobby "Boris" Pickett dies at the age of 69.
