There's no shortage of options for how to spend your time on September 20, 21 and 22. Check out these events for ideas and inspiration:
Eat at Arnold's and raise money for local animals. Not exactly a hop, skip and a jump from Worcester, but still worth mentioning is a special end-of-season benefit on Friday, September 20th from 11:30 am to 8 pm at Arnold's Lobster and Clam Bar in Eastham, Mass. Arnold's will donate all proceeds from the sale of food, ice cream and miniature golf to the Animal Rescue League of Boston's Brewster adoption center and to Wild Care of Cape Cod. Joe Rossetti from "The Wicked Cool Morning Show on Cool 102" will be broadcasting live beginning at 5 pm, and will have the station's prize wheel. Also starting at 5 until 8 pm, customers who subscribe to the Animal Rescue League's e-newsletter at the event will receive a dog or cat toy while supplies last, and will be entered into a special drawing. Prizes include gift baskets and gift cards including those donated by Agway of Cape Cod, The Cape Cod Dog, Hot Diggity, and others.
Klem's of Spencer, Mass. hosts the high-flying action of dockdogs! Dock jumping and dock diving canine performers compete September 20th, 21st and 22nd from 10 am - 2 pm at Klem's on Route 9 in Spencer. This event is open to all types of canines of any breed, size or shape, accompanied by human handlers aged 7 and up. Dogs must be 6 months old or older to be eligible. There's a Big Air Wave competition, an Extreme Vertical competition, and a Speed Retrieve competition. Registration can be done on-site at the beginning of the day.
Woofstock Dog Festival: September 21st from 11 - 3 pm is the annual Woofstock Dog Festival to benefit Buddy Dog Humane Society of Sudbury, Mass. Woofstock is held in Hudson, Mass. at the Elks Pavilion, 99 Park Street. Rain or shine. This year's music provided by the band Secret Evil Plan. There are plenty of demos and activities, and lots of Massachusetts non-profit and commercial pet vendors have booths at this event. Stop by and help out the dogs of Buddy Dog Human Society. Dogs welcome! Dogs and kids get in for free, adults $7.
The New England Pet Expo: September 21st from 10 - 6 at Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, Mass. Meet Shorty Rossi of Animal Planet's "Pit Boss" and his dog, Hercules. Tons of prize giveaways, vaccinations, microchipping, rescue groups and adoptions, live entertainment, demos, book signings, author readings, a costume contest, and more. Admission is FREE and pets are welcome on-leash with proof of vaccinations. The line to get in with a pet is long, so be prepared.
Feeding Our Neighbors (this one's not pet-related). Food drive and Spencer Cable Access Open House, Saturday September 21 at David Prouty High School Parking Lot 11 am - 3 pm. This annual event is in its 6th year hosted by Spencer Cable Access is held to raise donations for the Spencer Food Pantry. There is also an open house for Spencer Cable Access, and the event is broadcast live on Channel 12. (My next door neighbors Chuck & Mud will perform at 1 pm!) Bring your food donation to the Spencer Food Pantry.
Wicked Gathering Music Festival (this one isn't pet-related, unless you count that it takes place at Spencer Fish and Game!). Sunday, September 22nd from 2 pm at Spencer Fish and Game, 155 Mechanic St in Spencer, local musicians are sure to entertain, as well as art demonstrations, Hula Hoop decorating, tie dye making, bobbing for apples and more. A charity raffle for Spencer School Supplies and a spectacular light show at 8:30 once darkness falls! Gates open at 2 pm and a Night Dance Party Festival will continue until 9:30. General day pass is $10, kids under age 10 free. Pay just $7 if you bring a musical instrument to join in the jam! Total day and night pass $15; Night Dance Party only $10.
