Things to see at the 2013 Bassmaster Classic

If the Bassmaster Classic is the Superbowl of bass fishing, then the Outdoor Game Zone is the NFL Experience event in the days leading up to and on the contest days.  The “Zone” will feature the Shakespeare Kids Outdoor Challenge, S.R.S. The 2013 Bassmaster Classic is set for February 22-24 at Oklahoma’s Grand Lake. The Classic pits the best bass anglers against each other for cash prizes, all the while giving fans in Oklahoma and abroad (thanks to ESPN), some of the most exciting, head-to-head, fishing completion in North America.

Last year Chris Lane took the Classic in Shreveport’s Red River to claim the $500,000 top prize. Nipping at his heals were Greg Vinson, Keith Poche, Alton Jones and Ott Defoe. Ever present was one of the best anglers of all time, Kevin VanDam. If Classic history repeats itself, this Classic tournament will go down again as an exciting tournament for bass angling fans.

  • Part of the events leading up to the Saturday and Sunday weigh-ins will be the lumberjack show put on by STIHL.  Some of the best in the sport will be ripping through lumber with high powered saws, throwing axes at standing timber and carving up wood into different designs.
  • This is not for the slumbering beauties that need hours to get moving in the morning.  The Bassmaster Classic boat launch starts early, but the payoff is an exciting glimpse of the controlled chaos of an official B.A.S.S. take off when seconds count and the anglers squeeze out every bit of power from their outboards to get to the fishing hole where a winning stringer may be waiting.  The boat launch will take place at Wolf Creek Park at 7 AM each morning.  Get there early to see the anglers get ready and to see the take off.
  • Nothing beats the drama of the weigh in, especially on the final day.  The arena fills with high energy fans, the boats roll in with the top anglers sitting on top, and with each passing contestant, the final winner draws closer.  B.A.S.S. has nailed the weigh in.  It is thrilling experience for the fishermen in the tournament and for those that are fans.  This is the must-see event of the Classic.
