New York is noted as being the most culturally diverse place in the world. It is estimated that there are over 1,000 different cultures in New York City and as many as 800 languages spoken. Chinatown and Little Italy are two adjacent neighborhoods in Manhattan that are symbolic of the cultures present in the city. Both of these historic neighborhoods include restaurants and stores that hark back to the immigrant cultures that settled there in the early 1900s. Until this day, Chinatown hosts an annual Chinese New Year Parade and Little Italy is home to the Feast of San Gennaro year after year.

People-watching is one of the best things to do while in New York City. The extreme diversity of the population makes it interesting to simply sit and watch others walk by in various styles of dress or speaking different languages. Even native New Yorkers never get tired of observing the actions of other city dwellers.
