The year in postcards: The Waterfront, Burlington, Vermont

Be prepared for any type of weather.  Sometimes the most amazing sights happen during unexpected times.Many may be reminded of the Robert Frost poem "The Road Not Taken."The male duck most identifiable by its bright green head, Mallards make their home along the lake.In February they flock together on the shore and on the water looking for food.In spring, it's highly likely to see a Mallard family including ducklings in tow.After a January snowstorm, the boardwalk and the bike paths are plowed by the Burlington Parks and Recreation Department.With the sun setting around 4 pm, it's a perfect time to enjoy the view, go for a walk and then, have dinner at San Sai Japanese Restaurant at 112 Lake Street.One of the fun appetizer items on the menu is Sushi Pizza.  The crust is made from rice, then fried and topped with assorted sashimi.Having visited San Sai many times, all the sushi and sashimi items are delicious and well-seasoned.One of the qualities that this examiner appreciates the most is the sushi rice.  It is always sweet & moist with an almost creamy texture.View the list »

This is a must see for every family and school field trip.

  • The boating community is alive and well on Lake Champlain.Check out Community Sailing Center located at the north end of the waterfront.It features instruction for beginners, youth camps as well as other events and opportunities.Their Passion "For sailing, for paddling, for the grandeur of Lake Champlain, and for the thrill of being on the water" is one they are pleased to share with residents and visitors to Burlington.
  • This tasty treat was determined the best by this Examiner's "2011 Summer Creemee Tour."Both flavors of the twirl were distinct and combined wonderfully.   The smooth and creamy texture was fabulous.I'd like one any time of year!Tourists and locals love getting a creemee and hanging out on the deck of Burlington Bay Cafe and Market or strolling along the waterfront.  
  • This examiner had the opportunity to volunteer in the transition zone at last year's USA Sprint National Triathlon Championship which took place on the waterfront.Vermont City Marathon which is also so managed by Run Vermont takes place every year during Memorial Day Weekend along the lake and through Burlington.Whether an athlete or a volunteer participating in these events, it is widely acknowledged how well they are organized and what a boost they are to the local economy.
  • This area also has a tourist booth for information regarding local Lake Champlain excursions by cruise, ferry, sailboat or other lake activities such as, canoeing, rowing, learning to paddle surf, etc.The skies the limit.
