‘The Walking Dead’ Norman Reedus talks real life crossbow skills

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” zombie television drama is scheduled to return on Sunday, Feb. 10.

As fans get ready to welcome the second half of season three, many wonder what will happen to brothers Daryl Dixon played by Norman Reedus and Merle Dixon played by Michael Rooker. Reedus sat down with Time Out Melbourne for an interesting interview on what to expect from season three.

As you may already know, Daryl Dixon is known for his talents with the crossbow. Interestingly, Norman Reedus is really skilled at using the crossbow. He comments in his interview:

“I’m really good! The problem with the crossbow though is you can’t fire an arrow on camera – it’s a digital arrow. On set, there’s sort of a dummy crossbow with loose tension and it only shoots about five feet. It looks like the arrow’s flying out but it literally just goes like this far [casts his hand a short distance].”

“But our weapons expert takes us to gun ranges and I practice with a crossbow and guns just to know what I’m doing. I steal the crossbow every scene, which pisses them off, but I’m just like, “I’m on a plane, you can’t have it!” (Actually I drove from Georgia to NY.) I have three crossbows on my wall.”

Are you glad Daryl is an expert with the crossbow both off and on the television screen? What do you expect will happen to the Dixon brothers as The Governor decides their fate? Will Rick Grimes and the rest of the prison survivors, including baby Judith come to their rescue?

Tune in Sundays to AMC for the latest “The Walking Dead” episode.
