Imagine you are tasked with creating a mixtape for someone. Only this mixtape is dedicated to a single artist about whom the person requesting said tape knows nothing. Within the confines of a typical CD-RW (because the nomenclature has outlived the medium of cassette tapes, interestingly enough) you are to create a playlist that will provide an adequate and accurate representation of that artist’s body of work while still adhering to the assumed rules of a good mixtape (remember the scene in High Fidelity where John Cusack is making the tape? It’s like that). Here are your parameters:
1. You have 15 tracks to work with.
2. The list need not necessarily be chronological, but there must be a sort of cohesive flow to the track ordering, as though it were a studio album proper.
3. This can’t just be a list of personal favorites! Remember, you are trying to fairly and accurately appeal to someone else here.
