"Supernatural's" fourth season brought about the introduction of Angels into the series' universe. The stakes were increased as Dean (Jensen Ackles) returned from Hell only to find that, under the watchful eye of Ruby (Genevieve Padalecki,) his younger brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) had begun to embrace the powers given to him through the ingestion of demon blood.
Among the numerous character introductions to the cast were several Angels, most notably Castiel (Misha Collins,) Uriel (Robert Wisdom,) Anna (Julie McNiven,) and Zachariah (Kurt Fuller.) Also introduced this season was psychic Pamela Barnes (Traci Dinwiddie,) villain Alastair (played by both Mark Rolston and Christopher Heyerdahl,) reaper Tessa (Lindsey McKeon,) and Adam Milligan (Jake Abel,) half-brother to the Winchesters.
The series continued in its move away from "Monster of the Week" episodes, relying, instead, upon the use of story arcs.
