The top 3D films of the past five years

3D films have been around forever. But Avatar ushered in a new era of 3D films where the technology actually made you feel you were part of the action. Avatar has led to some really bad 3D films, but some really good ones as well.

It is easy to tell the difference between a film that was shot in 3D (with two camera lenses) or converted. The converted films usually look gimmicky and -- at times -- have hurt hopes of the 3D industry. There are exceptions, with the biggest one being Titanic 3D. The film, released in 2012, makes you feel like you are flying over the ocean in several scenes. In other scenes, you feel like you are in the middle of a disaster.

James Cameron, who converted Titanic to 3D, actually filmed Avatar with a 3D stereoscopic camera. The results are quite amazing and anybody who calls 3D a gimmick really needs to see this film in its 3D glory. Till this day, Avatar serves as a template for how 3D films should look.

We are listing the top five 3D films of the past five years. Let us know if you agree in the Comments section.
