Ivory comes at a high price. Orphaned baby elephants. Ivory is not like diamonds or gold which is mined from the Earth. It is made from the tusks of elephants who are poached and slaughtered for it. Already an endangered species, elephants are killed for the illegal Ivory trade.
The only way to stop this slaughter is for the money made from the sale of Ivory to dry up. Without a demand there is no seeking of supply. Ivory is beautiful but at what cost? Modern science has equipped consumer manufacturing companies with the kind of technology to create a mineral similar to Ivory in the way Cubic Zirconium is to Diamonds.
If you want to stop the hunting of elephants to near extinction the way the Tigers are threatened, then don't buy Ivory products. Does vanity and greed ever justify the extinction of a species that is just as valuable to the Eco-system as we humans are?
Last week, Britain's Daily Mail reported, 86 elephants were slaughter, including 33 pregnant females. Elephants only give birth every two years and this mass killing only adds to the plight of herds everywhere. The incident was called the worst mass slaughter of elephants this year by the International Fund for Animal Welfare.
