Let's continue the tour of one of the most artistic and intriguing cities in Europe, Florence. Art abounds everywhere you turn--in its architecture, sculpture, piazzas, inside its outstanding churches and museums. Many buildings that were constructed in the medieval period still stand, as well as those of the Renaissance. Florence enjoyed wealth and prosperity due to its banking system, powerful guilds and renowned artisans in textiles, leather work, jewelry, and culinary delights. With the wealth of the Medici's and other rich, powerful families, Florence became a hub for artists, such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, and many outstanding architects, such as Giotto and Brunelleschi. Because of this, Florence is credited as the birthplace of the Renaissance.
