A list was published by the Biblical Recorder this month of the largest Baptist churches in the state of North Carolina. There are 34 in their list, but this is a list of the top 10, with information on each church. See what the churches with the largest weekly worship attendance in the state are doing, as well as their national ranking in numbers. Some churches don’t report their numbers, such as Elevation, Carmel Baptist and First Baptist, which are all large churches in Charlotte. In 2012, there were 2,684 churches in North Carolina that reported their numbers for worship attendance, with a total from all churches being 401,673.
Obviously, it is up to personal opinion how much numbers in attendance at any given church makes a difference. It depends on what factors a person finds of importance in a church. While it’s great to see a church doing well in attendance, especially if they have events going on, it is also important to remember the main purpose of church, and of attending church, which is love for God. If a church doesn’t have that, they can have 5 million in worship and still not have love or the answer to any of life’s problems. It is encouraging to see churches with large numbers, but it is always the most encouraging to see people who love God and want to serve Him, no matter what church or place He calls them. A life changed to be a leader is more of a witness than a life spent following the trend or the “next big thing” in churches.
