If you are vacationing at Walt Disney World, your options for dining can be dizzying. The food at Disney is notorious for being delicious... don't expect Kings Island fare, here. We are talking gourmet dinners and delights from around the world. While visiting Disney's Animal Kingdom, I highly suggest a trip to the Yak and Yeti. Here are my reasons to eat at the Yak and Yeti...
Mango Pie at Yak and Yeti
If you think you've had mango in the past; think again. Our family eats a lot of mango ice cream and dried mango snacks, so we really thought we knew mango. That was before the mango pie at the Yak and Yeti. This is a must-eat not only for the Yak and Yeti, but for the entire Walt Disney World property.
Not too sweet, but delectable enough to please even a 10 year old palatte. The crust is light and flaky, yet thin, letting the delicious mango carry the bulk of the flavor. The mango melts in your mouth, cycling deeper into an array of dynamic flavors.
Of course, at Disney, dessert presentation is everything. We had a couple of different kinds of syrup to accompany the mango pie, as well as chunks of mango and strawberry to add a fresh twist. In addition to the mango pie, I suggest the fried wontons and flight of sorbet.
Interior Decor at Yak and Yeti
Disney has never been known to skimp on a theme, and the Yak and Yeti is a shining jewel in Disney World’s crown of expertly themed environments. The smells coming from the kitchen are enough to drive your taste buds wild, but it is the interior décor that instantly transports you to Asia.
Climbing the stairs to the second floor, you’re actually on a piece of Asia… the Disney Imagineers actually imported the entire staircase from Asia to maintain the most authentic feel possible. Beautiful artworks and even Chinese armor can be found all over the restaurant, and you are more than welcome to leave your table and have a look around.
Be sure to take note of the bamboo ceiling on the second floor and the beautiful lamps there, too. Even a trip to the bathroom adds to your vacation at the Yak and Yeti. How do they do that?
The View from Yak and Yeti
You know what they say about real estate; location, location location! The Yak and Yeti has it. Located in the Asia area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Yak and Yeti offers a great view from the second floor. Ask to sit upstairs and see if you can get a table right under a window that looks out onto the ‘street’.
After snatching up our Fast Passes for Expedition Everest, our family was ready for a hearty lunch. Duck into the Yak and Yeti just before 11:30 to avoid the lunch rush. With a seat upstairs, we could not only people watch, but we enjoyed taking in the music of an authentic Philippine instrument being played down below.
The Yak and Yeti is just one of many delectable restaurants found at Walt Disney World. Even the fast food is satisfying and delicious. For more photos of the Yak and Yeti menu items and restaurant interior, visit DestinationDis.com. Bon appetite!
