Every reader has one or more favored books. Beyond which, every writer’s style may be considered an amalgam of all the books that writer’s read, in particular his or her favorites, each of which no doubt contributed an aspect of its effect to that writer’s style.
It's a subjective choice, of course, which books mean the most to which people. As with all matters of preference, what one person deems profound, others class as worthless. But here's one to chew on: every book you've ever read, so long as it was written in English, is just another combination of the same 26 letters. All books have something in common.
I’ve read, and keep reading, so many books that a comprehensive list of influential titles would require more space, but the following are ten I consider to have the greatest collective impact on my writer's voice. Having published three books so far myself, with three more in the wings, these ten were certainly inspiring.
