There are several months of school ahead, but summer will be here before we know it, and many organizations in Sarasota are gearing up for registration for their summer camps. There are many options for summer camp in Sarasota, with choices ranging from art camps to sailing camps that are unique to the area. Prices vary from high-end expensive camps to low-cost day camps that fit family budgets very well. There are also choices in summer camps with educational activities to help children maintain reading and reading and math skills through the summer, with play activities in the mix along with education. There are summer camps that are unique to Sarasota in that the camps offer sailing, science activities to learn about the ocean and marine life, and camps with activities that enable children to give back to the community by attending summer camp activities at the Humane Society to learn how this organization cares for the pets who are waiting for adoption.

Registration is beginning for many camps, and now is the time to start your search for the perfect summer camp. The most popular camps fill up quickly. The camps that are unique to Sarasota fill up quickly.

Summer camp in the parks

The Sarasota County Park System will begin registration for its summer program in the parks on March 31.  Summer Camp in the Parks are available for children in grades 1-9.  Sarasota Parks and Recreation camps offer several choices that will fit all family schedules.  There are day camps and camp camp offerings for 1-4 weeks.  There are both full-day and half-day camps.  Summer Camp in the Parks is an affordable program and scholarships are available.  Summer camp guides are available at local libraries and recreation centers in Sarasota.  You may register online at parksonline.scgov.net, or by calling 941-861-9870 to obtain a mail-in registration form.

HealthFit Summer camp

Active, fun fitness camps are available at HealthFit sponsored by Sarasota Memorial Hospital.  Swimming, soccer, and a variety of indoor sports are available to keep children active and healthy this summer.  All campers receive a free hour of group personal training with a certified trainer.  Camps are available for 1 week, 2 weeks, or a month of fun at summer camp.  Lunch and snacks are also available.  You may obtain a registration form by logging on at www.smhfit.com, or by calling 941-917-7000 for summer camp at HealthFit sponsored by Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota will again sponsor summer camp with the fish and marine life.  Your child will explore the ocean life with hands-on activities, games, and crafts that are centered around the ocean life here in the Gulf of Mexico. This camp is available for children in grades 1-4.  You may call 941-388-4441, ext. 229 for registration information for summer with the fish. The Mote Marine Laboratory is located at 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway in Sarasota.
