Sukkot, or the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, begins this year in the evening of Wednesday, September 18, and ends in the evening of Wednesday, September 25.
Sukkot is a joyful festival, during which people build booths outside that they live in for the seven days of the holiday, eating meals and enjoying nature. It is a remembrance of the nation of Israel wandering in the desert, living in tents, and God’s care for His people. The booth, or sukkah, has 2 1/2 walls, and is covered by material that will not be blown off by the wind; the roof of the sukkah must be constructed out of materials that have grown out of the ground, such as branches. The idea is to be able to see through the roof to the stars at night. Read on to find places to go to celebrate this holiday with others!
