Unless you are very lucky to live in a school district that has made the lunch program a priority, you are probably among the many that are accidently teaching kids how to eat unhealthy. I don’t believe it is intentional, but we have set the bar for healthy eating pretty low.
Recently the government has paid more attention to the lack of standards in the school lunches. Most of us know what school lunch entails, and it’s not pretty. I wouldn’t feed most of it to my dog and I have found food on an airline to be of similar caliber (or slightly better) school lunch is the equivalent of eating at Mc. Donald’s-sometimes tasty, but never made of all real food. So now it is supposed to be fewer calories and higher in nutrition, which has made it more difficult for school districts to comply. The better quality the food, the more expensive, and they are already working with stripped budgets.
