Star Trek phaser tops lots at Julien's Auctions Hollywood Legends 2013

Did you know Frank Sinatra was also a painter? This colorful abstract oil on canvas painting with black painted edges by Frank Sinatra, signed and dated lower right "Sinatra '75." The 30 by 30 inches painting was estimated at $5,000 to $7,000 but sold for $21,760.A special-effects flying costume worn by Christopher Reeve in Superman IV: The Quest forPeace .The multi-piece bodysuit consists of a custom blue knit leotard with the stylized Superman logo sewn into the front, a zipper closure in back, and an embroidered Bermans and Nathans costumer tag with faded typed text reading "Christopher Reeve - 4913 Flying - Superman IV.”  The leotard also has four large snaps on the shoulders where the cape attaches. A pair of matching knit tights and red trunks with added belt loops are included, all with similar Bermans and Nathans tags. The feet of the tights are made of a softer knit for added comfort and are woven into the tights. The shimmering material is woven in the distinctive pattern used exclusively by Bermans and Nathans for all their production-made Superman costumes. The trunks and leotard have sewn-in slots where cables would be attached to a flying harness worn under the costume. The lot is completed with a calf-length red cape with attached embroidered yellow with black Superman logo that matches the chest logo. The shoulder and upper back area of the cape has a padded panel and straps that tie under the arms and behind the back to secure the cape.  Accompanied by a copy of the film. It was estimated to sell for $20,000 to $30,000 but sold for $25,600.This original genie bottle was used on the first season of I Dream of Jeannie (NBC, 1965-1970). The glass bottle is painted with gold paint accents with patina and floral vine motifs. it is ccompanied by a letter of authenticity from Larry Hagman written on his personal stationery stating that this bottle was created by artist Robert Purcell and marked with two markings that were used to identify the bottle as #2 of 6 made. The bottle is also known as The Original Golden Vines Bottle. It is 11 inches tall. Estimated at $60,000-$80,000, it sold for $41,600. View the list »
This Phaser Rifle from the William Shatner-starring second pilot for Star Trek  was created by toy inventor Reuben Klamer for Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. When the original pilot presented to NBC was asked to be retooled for a more action-packed adventure, Roddenberry asked for a really big gun. When production was wrapped, the piece was returned to Klamer and replaced with the now familiar pistol design used throughout the remaining three seasons of the original series. This weapon was never seen again in the series but was used in a number of studio-commissioned publicity photos and appeared on an early lunch box for the series. The lot included the original custom-made case made to deliver the rifle to the studio and copies of Inter-Department Communications from Roddenberry to Bob Justman, Bernie Weitzman and Ed Perlstein regarding the weapon as well as an original, signed letter from Roddenberry to Klamer, dated March 16, 1966. There are also seven black and white Polaroid photographs showing the finished weapon from various angles with a letter to Klamer from employee AB Kander, discussing Roddenberry’s visit to the shop to inspect the rifle and approving the final product. Finally, the design plan for the rifle, signed by Roddenberry for approval on June 28, 1965. There is an additional pen sketch on the plan with some minor revisions to the weapon.

Julien’s Auctions, one of the top celebrity memorabilia auction houses in Los Angeles had a big day at its Hollywood Legends auction of exceptional screen worn wardrobe, props, photographs, jewelry and celebrity owned items on April 5. The event was held at Julien’s Auctions Beverly Hills gallery and held some surprises with some lots selling far over estimate. The top lot was William Shatner’s laser rifle from the second pilot episode of the Star Trek television series. It had an estimate of $50,000 to $70,000 and sold for a winning bid of $231,000.

  • This  metal claw was used in Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon (Warner Bros., 1973) . The metal claw was made at Lee's request by George Lee, in 1972 for this film. Fashioned in steel with four knife blades protruding from a metal block with metal handle at base, the claw was used by the character Han against Lee's character in the Hall of Mirrors fight in the film and leaves the iconic stripe-like wounds on Lee's face and body. The claw is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from George Lee and a copy of the film. Although estimated at $10,000 to $12,000, it sold for $20,480.
