'Something' in Music 23

Greetings, music fans and welcome to “‘Something’ in Music”. Recently, your sometimes socially inept, shy, innocent white boy writer had an atypical conversation about marriage with some attractive, young ladies in a trendy club. This led to a discussion of wedding traditions.
Specifically, when a gal gets married she’s supposed to wear “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue”. That one comment (and a few cherry vodka and Cokes) was basically all it took to give birth to the idea behind this odd, eclectic series here on Examiner.com.
Here we shall briefly examine various songs in four different categories: classic songs (“something old”), newer numbers (“something new”), cover cuts (“something borrowed”) and blues songs and/or songs with the word “blue” in the title ("something blue"). As per usual, readers are not only welcome to contribute to this fun series but are actually encouraged if not downright expected to do so.

"Something Old"

“Something old” this time around come to us courtesy of burgeoning actor Michael Carey.  Carey, who will be appearing in Blood Raid--a vampire action movie with Van Damme and Don the Dragon—likes the 1982 classic cut “Bad To The Bone” by George Thorogood & The Destroyers off the LP of the same name.

"Something New"

‘Something new” this edition comes courtesy of singer-songwriter James Halifko.  Halifko submitted a new song titled “Dreams.”  It’s by artist Peter Coia.  (OK, the song actually dates back to 2008 but-hey-it’s new to you and could work well as a theme song for the series if it was a live online show, right?)

"Something Borrowed"

"Something Borrowed"

“Something borrowed” this edition comes from Joanne Abu Qartoumy who is the number one fan of New Blues Revolution.  She chose “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt.  It’s actually a song written by song written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin.  It’s off of her 1991 album Luck of the Draw.

"Something Blue"

Our blues bit or “something blue” this time is brought to you by publicist/promoter Erica Springer.  She suggested “Five Long Years” by Buddy Guy.   Written by Eddie Boyd in 1952 it’s a moderate-tempo twelve-bar blues piece.  Guy’s version can be found on his 1991 disc Damn Right, I've Got the Blues.
