A slow moving cold front is finally pressing south of the Capital Region this morning. Behind this system a shot of cooler, Canadian air courtesy of high pressure will close the weekend on a fair and breezy note. Autumn will be in the air this afternoon, as temperatures struggle to make it into the 70’s, and a northwest breezy picks up between 10 and 20 MPH with some higher gusts at times.
A chilly night is in store this evening, as clear skies and calm winds allow temperatures to drop into the 40’s, with some lower to mid 30’s possible across the higher terrain and the north-country. Some of these spots may start out the new work week with some frost formation.
High pressure dominates the weather Monday, before sliding east of the region by Tuesday. This allows a warm front to approach Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. A surge of unseasonably warm and humid air will overtake the region by midweek, along with the shower and storm chances being on the increase. Some of the storms Tuesday night through Wednesday night may be on the strong to locally severe side.
A potent cold front passes through the region Thursday morning, followed by a secondary cold front Thursday evening. Some showers are possible with the feature, but of greater note will be that these frontal boundaries will usher in some chilly air in time for the end of the work week and the coming weekend.
