We seem to enter into parenthood in the same way as we often enter relationships: blindly. When I embarked on the journey of motherhood, a friend of mine, and mom of three, recommended a book to me that I have read and reread over the last seven years of raising my daughter.

Here are a few books you may want to read if you, like me, are in need of a little (or a lot!) of “parenting assistance” from time to time. Hope you find these books helpful, because we all know being a good parent can be the most challenging job we will ever do.

  1. Parenting with Love and Logic, by Foster Cline, M.D. and Jim Fay
  2. How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk, by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish
  3. Discipline Without Shouting or Spanking, by Jerry Wyckoff, Ph.D. and Barbara Unell
  4. How to Discipline Kids without Losing Their Love and Respect, by Jim Fay
  5. Love and Logic Magic When Kids Leave You Speechless, by Jim Fay and Charles Fay, Ph.D.
  6. Helicopters, Drill Sergeants & Consultants: Parenting Styles and the Messages They Send, by Jim Fay
